As people get more environmentally-conscious and health-focused, plant-based food has never been more popular.
There are so many underrated benefits of a plant-based diet, so whether you practice it every day or just incorporate a few veggie meals throughout the week, here's the impact you can have and the impact it can have on you.
Eating more plant-based meals is one of the most effective and low effort ways to reduce your carbon footprint. Why?
- Meat is resource-heavy: Producing been and lamb takes a huge amount of feed, water, and land. Not to mention the methane released by livestock, which is a greenhouse gas over 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide!
- Plants are climate-friendly: Foods like lentils, grains, and veggies require far less water, land and energy to produce. Did you know that one kilogram of lentils generates just 0.9kg of CO2, while a kilo of beef pumps out over 27kg of CO2 – that's a massive difference.
- Protecting biodiversity: Animal farming is a major driver of deforestation, particularly in places like the Amazon, putting wildlife at risk. Reducing meat demand helps protect natural habitats and the species that rely on them.
Is it really good for your body? Yes.
A well-balanced diet is packed with fibre, vitamins and antioxidants. Plant-based food can provide all of these and help keep your energy levels steady throughout the day.
If you're worried about protein, don't be. You can find plenty of it in ingredients like lentils, tofu, beans, oats, nuts, and even broccoli.
'Plant-based food is boring' is a myth!
Today's plant-based food scene is full of bold flavours, comfort classics and satisfying meals, whether you're cooking at home or eating out.
From creamy pastas and juicy veggie burgers to rich desserts and flaky pastries, there's a plant-based version of almost everything. So don't worry, you won't miss out.

This doesn't mean you have to overhaul your diet overnight. Try Meatless Mondays, enjoy your favourite coffee with oat or soy milk, or cook a new plant-based recipe once a week.
Every small change counts to promoting a more sustainable food system, and you might discover a new favourite meal along the way.
